THERE SHE GOES, THERE SHE GOES AGAIN…
Little nuggets of advice for making a smooth shift from a gal who has lived almost everywhere around Bangalore.
Moving from Indiranagar to Koramangala or HSR Layout to RT Nagar – the challenge is the same. When you shift, you stress. There are a number of Packers and Movers in Bangalore. But how do you pick the right one?

Here are a few pointers to consider:

1.Make sure that the Packers and Movers Company you’ve found are offering you a solid and firm deal, and that you have read through the fine print – there are little traps hidden in the fine print.

2.Cheap or illegitimate packers and movers just end up in damaged TV sets, favorite planters being broken or your mom’s old mixie being crushed. And God forbid mom in-law’s chair breaks a leg – the heartache and the stories. Let’s not even go there! A company that seems ‘good on paper’ may actually take no onus for damages and you may well end up forking out more bucks than you expected.

3.Moving in a city like Bangalore, where time is money, you better take care of the communication to make sure there are no delays and the move is stress-free. Confirming the time and date is important and so is the exit and entry timings of the society gate, in case you are moving from or into one. Take it from me; you don’t want to stand at the gate arguing with a security guard with the rain clouds winking mischievously at you.

4.Speaking of rain let me inform the unwary North, East and West Indian. Bangalore has only one type of weather – natural air conditioning with chances of rain at the drop of a hat! Which means it will rain, even if mildly so at any time.

5.Don’t wait for the last minute, assuming that there is more supply than demand. There’s a lot of dubious stuff going on out there. Every mover and packer in Bangalore isn’t exactly professional. And there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to move on the exact date you wish to. Most moves happen around the end of the month, for obvious reasons. Other popular times are school holidays, new financial year, end of school year and long weekends. So, do book in advance to avoid disappointments.

6.And whatever you do, make sure you avoid Friday like the plague! In times of CoVid this isn’t a great joke, but I mean it! Unless, of course, you like competing for the best packers and movers in Bangalore! Moving on a Friday or Saturday increases your chance of the luggage truck getting stuck in traffic and not making it on time. Hell, it may well be your own car on the way to Night Watchman blocking the truck! As a Bangalorean, there is a very good chance of that happening.

7.The delays can cause a domino effect ending with you being in a very bad mood for no reason at all! Arriving very late at the said neighborhood putting you in the bad books of aunties, you’re going to be spending the next year around, isn’t very smart. You may be put on the ‘No Medu Vada for this Bachelor’ list. You get my drift…

8.Not ready on the day of your move? Sadly, this has been known to happen oh so often! Make sure that you are fully packed by the time of moving day, I mean your personal belongings. Unless off-course you want the packers and movers rummaging through the VIPs, Jockey, and letting everyone know Victoria’s Secrets. You can keep ahead of this challenge by setting deadlines for specific rooms and leaving enough extra time should it be required at the end. You will need the time, since office deadlines take priority for all of us. Hence time is not a luxury we have.

9.It’s difficult to know how long it will take to pack up everything in your home, and this is where a reliable packer and mover or shift and freight company can help by giving you advice. Trust me, you don’t want to be caught out when it comes to moving day. In case you are moving out of Bangalore or into Bangalore, which I did too, you will need a helpful Shift and Freight company. Especially if you have small kids or pets, moving with family can seriously challenge your sanity.

10.With everything piling up on top of you, things begin to slip through, and one of the most common is forgetting to reserve a space outside your building/house for the packers and movers truck. Try parking your vehicles outside the society or in the guest parking for when the truck arrives. It is considered polite to inform your neighbors about the move so that you aren’t greeted with loud expletives! In most countries it is, however in India we aren’t big on formalities.

11.Large furniture and appliances will take the most time to get onto the truck. For those with a full family home viz-a-viz a bachelor pad, It’s a good idea to learn how to take apart the large items early on. So, when moving day comes you should either be able to take things apart really quickly or already have it apart, ready to put straight onto the truck. Or you can just shift like a Boss by hiring one of the seasoned packers and movers in Bangalore. This small step could be the difference between moving today or tomorrow! Sometimes items are so tricky to move or take apart, no preparation has been had, and they have to be moved to another day. I got stuck with a split AC that wouldn’t come off without tearing the pipes. It was a right royal mess! And yes, I used an air conditioner in Bangalore.

Avoid a nightmarish scenario and do your research before you move. Go for a good company that can advise you and gives you not just good service but also after-sales service. This may come at a slightly higher cost, but trust me, it’ll be worth it!
